how it started

Everything around us started with an idea, it is the art of translating this idea into reality, that is our talent.

Wijk Yacht Creation was founded in 2007 by Bart van der Wijk. Bart studied mechanical engineering (B.Sc.) in Eindhoven and industrial design (M.Sc.) at the university of Delft. He graduated at Tony Castro Yacht Design in the UK and turned his passion for sailing and yachting into his profession.

His strength is design visualization, which is one of the core competencies of the company. We believe it is the key for a successful project; to translate your vision into reality. After several yacht designs, Bart was often asked to develop a custom yacht tender design and was pushed till the limits of imagination. In these projects a no is simply not accepted, we always try to find how then…

With this spirit, in 2013 we signed the contract on a project to develop 18 custom boats for one of our clients in China. During this project, the company grew in employees, but also in knowledge. From design till project development and delivery in China, we learnt to see the bigger pictures and handle the responsibilities for these special projects.

With the unique experience and knowledge of the full process, more and more we were asked for special projects from private clients, shipyards and government. With our wide variety of projects, a red line can be seen for innovation. We love to go where no one else has gone. One of our latest projects is the development of the zero-emission representation vessel for the Port of Amsterdam which will be the first ship with energy storage in the form of solid hydrogen.

Currently our team and our experience is growing, and we still enjoy every project. We are located in the marina of Scheveningen (The Hague). Our style is informal, so you are always very welcome to drop by for a cup of coffee.
